The Wizardly Wisdom Series

My Senior Thesis Project

Through personal experience and research, I noticed that most children’s educational posters are either fully typographic or use stock images, so in the Wizardly Wisdom Series I aimed to create a set of illustrated educational/inspirational posters. These posters are meant to be hung in a grade school classroom, and aim to motivate students in a silly and whimsical way by mixing our modern world with medieval fantasy.

Process Work

Below is a collection of thumbnails and sketches that eventually built up to the finalized pieces above.

Sketches

I took my stronger thumbnail sketches for each idea and did value sketches for each. In the beginning I wasn’t sure which poster to start with, so that’s why some sketches are repeated and share space with other poster ideas!

I wasn’t happy with my value sketches for my Space of Vast and Books are Powerful posters, so I ended up reworking them and doing an extra round of sketching. I’m so glad I did, as they ended up being my favorite of the 4!

Thumbnails

In the thumbnail phase, I just spent time jotting down as many possibilities as I could think of; I ended up combining a couple different thumbnail ideas into each finished poster composition.
